Cozy Church Street Proposal
I’ve had a ton of fun this winter. Things have slowed down during my off season from wedding photography, which has given me the gift of more free time than I’ve ever had before (hence: blogging!). That said, I’ve been able to do more of one of my favorite photo projects - surprise proposals! There’s something almost addicting about the thrill of helping someone plan the logistics and execution of their proposal. Jill’s proposal to Ashley this winter took that excitement and brought it into a whole realm of awesomeness I didn’t even know existed.
Double Secret Proposal in Burlington, Vermont
When Jill reached out after finding me from a mutual friend, she was so excited to plan something that would surprise her girlfriend while also making sure she could make it an experience she would love. I remember her describing the vibe she was going for, summarizing it as ‘darkish-lightish academia energy.’ How can you not love that description? When the time came for us meet downtown at the top of Church Street in Burlington, we were both surprised that Ashley proposed right back! Getting the planner to be as equally surprised was definitely a new experience for me and honestly her reaction photos are some of my favorites. Plus I got two engagement rings to photograph.
We knew the day of the proposal was going to be freezing cold, so we kept it short and planned on meeting the next day at Citizen Cider, one of their favorite Burlington spots. That day also gave us a surprise snow squall, which we welcomed those big fluffy snowflakes with open arms. We then romped around the art district finding all the cool architecture to show off, doing our best not to freeze our butts off. I think the images we got were totally worth it.
Congrats again Jill and Ashley! I had so much fun documenting you both during such an awesome weekend.
