Picture-Perfect Connecticut Wedding at the Whitehart Inn

Professional portrait photography of lesbian wedding

I first met this couple way back when Jill was planning a secret proposal to Ashley—which actually turned out to be a double (surprise!) secret proposal and one of my most memorable engagement photography sessions. We had such a great time together that they asked me to photograph their wedding last year, and I knew it was going to be a blast.

Ashley and Jill tied the knot at the stunning White Hart Inn in Salisbury, Connecticut, and a big focus of their day was being present to make memories with all of the family and friends that were there to celebrate with them. These two are silly and fun and their day was full of inside jokes (both established and made up during our time together taking photos).

While we prioritized getting some gorgeous portraits of the two of them together during their first look, I truly loved how much the couple embraced having an empty timeline and leaving things unscripted. It allowed for plenty of moments to capture some great candid photography, and those photos are always some of my faves. We also added wedding videography, which incorporated camcorder footage taken by the couples' family. The collaborative approach resulted in a beautifully nostalgic feel to the final film.

How the day unfolded

On the day of the wedding, we met at the inn to take some photographs as Ashley and Jill finished getting ready and prepared for their first look. (Theirs was probably one of the silliest and sweetest first looks I've ever been a part of.) We then took some portraits of the two of them together—making sure to focus on the absolutely gorgeous giant clawfoot tub—before heading back to the Airbnb to meet the wedding party.

With ABBA blasting in the background, we snapped some stellar group photos before heading back to the inn for the ceremony. The wedding was held on the front lawn of the inn, and I remember someone across the street was blasting "Jumper" by Third Eye Blind. For some folks, it may have been a distraction, but these two took it in stride. It simply became another inside joke added to the lore of their perfect wedding day.

Once the clock rang cocktail hour, everyone went into full party mode! Dinner was a candlelit affair inside the inn, during that time I stole the couple away for those beautiful golden hour portraits I love so much. The reception featured a live band for dancing, and the couple even had a surprise outfit change to fully embrace the '70s ABBA disco vibe for the end-of-the-night party.

Can we do it all again?

One of my favorite moments during the ceremony was when the officiant (actually the bartender at the inn) said how much these two were his favorite couple, and I couldn't agree more. Ashley and Jill were truly my perfect couple, and I want them to get married again so I can photograph them again. Stay tuned for the Instagram highlight reel!
