My Favorite Vermont Elopement Spots
It’s no secret how much I enjoy location scouting for my sessions - the thrill of finding an unknown gem right in Vermont is majorly addicting. One of my absolute favorite tasks is when couples looking to elope recruit me to help find that perfect location, and have I collected some awesome spots. It only seems right for me to share some of my favorite Vermont elopement spots that make for the perfect place to celebrate.
What I Look for When Scouting Elopement Locations in Vermont
Firstly, I look for that sweet spot between beautiful, quiet outdoor locations that don’t take a lot of effort to get there. No matter if your elopement crew is just the two of you or your closest friends and family, making sure it’s accessible to everyone involved is a big deal. Am I down for an epic 2 hour hike for your mountain top elopement? Absolutely, but you might find yourself pretty sweaty and winded after if it’s not a normal activity for you. Luckily, Vermont has lots of gorgeous off-the-beaten-path locations that don’t take a lot of effort to get to. Second, I try to find spots that have a little variety so that they’re fun to explore for you as a couple, and for me to get my creativity flowing. Lastly, gorgeous views. This isn’t always required since most of my focus will be on you and your beautiful selves, but it sure doesn’t hurt to have an epic landscape for a backdrop.

Lake Willoughby in Westmore, Vermont
Lake Willoughby in the North East Kingdom is magic. Pure and simple. Not only do the surrounding mountains give it such a unique fjord-like view, the sunsets are absolutely breathtaking. I could bathe in that golden sunset light every day.

Hike In Killington Vermont
One of my favorite hikes in Vermont that gives amazing views of the Killington area is Deer’s Leap Overlook Trail. It’s a pretty quick walk up the trail and does require some hiking ability to pull off, but the payoff at the top is totally worth it.

Lake Champlain in Burlington, Vermont
Is it a well known spot? Definitely. Does that detract from the gorgeous views of the Adirondacks across the lake? Absolutely not. Lake Champlain is gorgeous all year round for any sized elopement, and has so many locations to pick from. My mantra the last few years has become ‘When in doubt, WATERFRONT.’
Button Bay State Park in Ferrisburgh, Vermont
Can you tell I like water? A little further south from Burlington, Button Bay is also right on Lake Champlain and has lots of great views of the mountains. Parks are a great option for renting a dedicate site for the day, and you can easily make it into a camping getaway for friends and family to relax and enjoy.
The Middlebury Inn
If I have a couple that’s looking for something indoors for their elopement, The Middlebury Inn is a top contender. The historical architecture right in downtown Middlebury is so much fun to explore, plus it has great indoor spots for getting cozy in.
